Eudemons Online
Today
I spent 6 hours playing Eudemons Online. Eudemons Online is a Free 2
Play MMORPG and like all F2P games they have an item shop or an item
mall but you don’t have to spend anything to play and/or enjoy Eudemons
Online. In my 6 hours of non-stop playing I was able to reach level 27
and here are some screenshots of my adventure in Eudemons Online.

Access: Free 2 Play

What is Eudemon Online?

Some information from the official website:

The
Eudemons Online is a fantasy MMORPG. In this mythic world, you can
choose to become a Warrior, Mage and Paladin. Command your heroes and
eudemons to adventure on the vast land of Atlantis and challenge the
power of sword and magic.

In Eudemons Online, hundreds
of weapons and spirit gems can be yours. Only the believer and the
protector can have them. Make weapons of your own and bring their power
into full play!

Grouping, mentoring and rewarding and other various systems guarantee the Eudemons Online highly interactive and full of fun!

What
makes Eudemons Online unique are the eudemons. Eudemons are monster
like pets that assist you in combat. Unlike with other MMORPG where you
must first gain a required level to have acquire a pet in Eudemon
Online you’ll start with 2 pet monsters on your side. My character is a
warrior and I have 2 WarriorAtkDef eudemons when I started now at level
27 I have 7 eudemons assisting me in combat. Also, you can converge
with your eudemon to become much stronger. Converging is like combining
with your eudemon to become one. You’ll damage stronger and become
tougher.

Death! Arrggghhhh!

In Eudemons Online death
means losing a lot of items. Yes! If you die a lot of your items will
drop for everyone else to pick up. I died twice, the first time was not
to irritating because the items I dropped were returned to me by a
partymate who picked them up but I wasn’t so lucky the second time, my
new partymate looted everything then disappeared.

Leveling Fast!

Reaching
your character’s next level isn’t much of a grind. You can go solo and
still level-up fast. Your XP Skill will even boost your experience gain
faster and don’t forget that your eudemons are there to help you kill
faster. Also, the mentor system will increase your exp. gain by 20%.

Lots of Monsters to Kill

Monsters
are everywhere and they respawn fast too. You can find a group of
monsters to kill and then just wait because they’ll respawn right back.
I was able to level-up my new eudemons this way.

PK! PK! PK!

This
game is not for cry babies because once your character reaches level 30
then you are free to kill. Yes, anyone can kill you. You can even be
killed inside towns. So always keep your guard up.

Messy Screen

Eudemons
Online’s GUI (graphic user interface) is not very neat. It has too many
stuff on it. Chat messages at the bottom, some system messages appear
on top, GM messages appear somewhere in the middle, etc. Anyway, I did
not notice it that much, I guess I was so busy slaying monsters.

Dated! No Angle??? Diablo? Maybe!

Eudemons
Online’s graphics is dated but not prehistoric and the game looks 3D
but you can’t change camera angles just like with MU Online. You can
zoom in and out, though! Not being able to rotate or change camera
angle is a bit annoying and at time irritating especially when you are
behind an object bigger than your character. There’s no eye candy in
Eudemon Online but it still looks better than Legend Ares (I just wish
the camera can be rotated).

Music? SFX???

To be honest, I turned off the music. I just don’t feel Eudemon’s music.

The best part of all!

The
best part of Eudemons Online is that it’s free. Yup! You don’t have to
spend anything to enjoy Eudemons Online. I must confess, in my 6 hours
of playing Eudemon Online I had fun. I partied with some other players
which I enjoyed and the urge to continue playing was starting to build
up but of course I have to stop myself before I get addicted, hehehehe!

Finally, I received my Invitation Key Code to Carpe Diem’s Beta Test
Server. I’ve downloaded Carpe Diem’s installation file which is quite
very small for a game like this. It’s only 250MB. Here are some screenshots I took from the game. Enjoy!

I played the game for about 10 hours (rough estimate) in 3 days and
I was able to reach level 21. As always, my character of choice is a
Knight.

Character creation is very easy and has a nice, colorful
interface too. you can choose from 3 races; Human, Dragonblood or Fey.
Humans and Dragonbloods have males and females but Feys are a female
only race. After creating my character I got transported into the game
world where I was greeted by a bunch of other players that were busy
killing chickens. Yes! Killing chickens! I kinda joined them and gained
a few levels and some items too.

The interface is easy enough to
use and the game guide is just a click away. If you have some questions
then you can click on the Game Guide button to find the answer although
the Game Guide is not as comprehensive as we would want it to be but
still it’s a big help for newbies.

Strolling around town you’ll
find other characters/players, NPCs and some unclaimed pets wandering
freely. There are 3 kinds of pets in Carpe Diem; Horse for Humans,
Minotaurs for Dragonbloods and Bears for Feys. You need to be atleast
level 10 to claim a pet. With that in mind, I went out of town and
killed a lot of Wolves which looked like a LaWolf found in Flyff.
Reaching level 10 I went back to town to find an NPC named Clouzer
which would promote me to a Knight and teach me some basic skills which
includes the Riding Skill that’ll enable me to ride and capture a pet.

Levelling
is not much of a grind but the hunting areas are designated and limited
making players crowd a certain hunting area although monsters respawn
quite fast but if there will be thousand of players then there will be
some major bottlenecking.

Mounted combat is what sets Carpe Diem
apart from other MMORPGs. You can ride and fight or you can dismount
and fight on foot. Also, being mounted gives you some combat bonus but
you won’t be able to use some of your skills.

Carpe Diem has a
good crafting system worth exploring. I wasn’t able to try much of it
since I was to busy levelling my character but I was able to refine and
forge a few.

The graphics feel a little dated. The textures are
not that smooth. It’s like a cross between Legend of Ares and Flyff.
The effects didn’t really amaze me and that goes for the sounds too.

Gameplay?
If you’ve played other MMORPGs then you’ve played Carpe Diem except for
the mounted combat and other stuff added to it. Anyway, Open Beta is
next week and if I still have access then I’ll continue playing and
maybe reach level 50 and get myself a Unicorn. For now, I urged
everyone to give Carpe Diem a try! Why not? It’s free until it goes
Commercial!

MMORPG Sweat Shop Opened

October 19, 2006

A MMORPG Sweat Shop just opened in our area. The name sweat shop
really boggles my mind because I don’t think you’ll ever break a sweat
working in one of them. Why? They are fully airconditioned! Ha ha ha!

Anyway,
I first got the news about it from my nephews and there were some
posters posted around the area. They tried to apply but they were told
that they were only accepting girls but that later changed. Gender was
no longer a problem but you must be at a certain age to apply.

Here are some information which I was able to gather:

  • It seems that the business is located inside a house and are operated by Koreans
  • They are hiring onlinegamers at the age of 17 to 24 years old
  • Work is by shift and it’s 12 hours per shift
  • Workers are paid 100 pesos a day (more or less $2 per day)
  • The place is fully airconditioned with top of the line gaming rigs

My thoughts: 17 is still a minor here in the Philippines and minors
need a special working permit from the Department of Social Welfare. If
they don’t have such a permit from DSWD and they have minors working
for them then they’re operation is illegal. 100 pesos per day is way,
way, way, way beyond minimum salary and a 12 hour work shift without
overtime pay is also illegal.

At first glance, you’ll immediately know that the business is
operating illegally. I guess they paid off some local government
official to be able to put up a shop.

The problem here in the Philippines is that laws are very weakly and
are very poorly implemented specially in many provinces. Corruption is
very high even in the highest goverment offices. So, it’s not suprising
to see foreign businessmen to open up businesses that doesn’t comply
with existing laws. SAD but TRUE!

Contrary to popular belief, MMORPGs are not made for players to have
fun. They are made so that who ever has the rights to the MMORPG can
make as much money as possible. There is no profit to be made from an
MMORPG that goes out of its way to make a game more fun to play. On the
contrary, features that make a game more fun like story-driven quests
and even minimally realistic AI are deterrents to profit. The reason
for this is that the way MMORPGs attempt to maximize profits is by
cramming as many players as possible into the same server resources. By
doing this they are able to maximize income (since each player
typically pays monthly dues) and minimize costs (since buying and
hosting servers cost money). Thus MMORPGs developers actually go out of
their way to cut corners and sacrifice gameplay and security features
for the sake of the almighty dollar. This results in games that provide
only a mere shadow of what single player role-playing games offer.

This
is why MMORPGs are plagued with what basically boils down to be the
same type of boring, monotonous gameplay, in which all there is to do
is wander around vast expanses of wilderness looking for infinitely
respawning monsters to kill that in reality pose no real threat to
anyone. The only other thing to do in MMORPGs is to go on quests that
simply slap on some ludicrous objective which thinly veils the fact
that you are still going to be doing exactly the same thing. That is,
run around killing infinitely respawning monsters. A classic example of
this is being asked to kill the respawning boss monster and having to
wait for twenty other people squatting in line who also want to kill
and loot it. Another common slap on quest is having to spend hours
looking for some common respawning creature in order to gather large
quantities of the creature’s body parts which can then be traded in for
an item that makes your character more powerful. The only motivating
force that exists in these MMORPGs is the desire for players to gain
better equipment and advance in levels to make their characters more
powerful. This way, they can show off how much bigger their sword is
compared to the next person’s. In fact, developers have learned to
cleverly encourage this type of mentality by providing Arenas and
Contests who’s sole purpose is to provide a venue where players can
actually prove that their swords are indeed bigger than somebody else’s.

To fool their players in to thinking that the game is more fun than
it actually is, MMORPGs use three simple simple tactics. The first of
these is to sugar-coat the game with eye-candy and flashy graphics.
While the graphics may impress new players, in reality, it does little
to actually improve the amount of fun you have in the game once you
actually get down to playing. The second cheap trick that MMORPGs
practice is allowing hundreds of levels of advancement which keeps you
perpetually hunting respawning monsters to gain that little bit of
extra power. Finally, MMORPGs love to flaunt the fact that they can
cram thousands of players in to the same server. While this may seem
like an attractive feature at first, all this does is make players
ignore each other in the same way that you would end up ignoring
everyone else in a crowded city street. In fact, about the only
advantage that having so many players on the same server offers is that
you will have more people to compare the size of your sword with.

Flyff Scam Sites

July 25, 2006

My nephew loss his access to his Flyff
account today because he was tricked by a Flyff website that claims
they can boost stats by editing your characters in Flyff. I was too
late to tell him that it’s not true and it’s only a scam. He had
already entered and sent his account information. :(

After the incident, I immediately posted a warning at Philippine Flyff’s
Official Board about this type of website. I did not mention nor I
place a link to the scam site because I don’t want more players to go
there. My warning was to be very careful of such websites and to never
give out their usernames and passwords to anyone not even to pFlyff GMs
because GMs will never ask for it but I was met with hostility by two
forum members and even implied negative ideas about my warning.

One of them even said that the GMs should track my IP so that they
can catch who’s behind those sites clearly implying that I have
something to do with those sites. My nephew got hacked, loss his
account and I tried to do the best thing I can and that is to warn them
about such websites and in return I was met with hostility.

I felt that these forumers don’t want  other Flyff players to be warned and if so, why? Are they behind these scam sites?

Most of Flyff players are kids below 18 and they should always be
reminded not to fall for such tricks! My nephew is still playing Flyff
but now he has to start from scratch once again!

Registered, downloaded, installed and played Last Chaos up to level
10 yesterday and here is my quick look at this beautiful game.
Beautiful? Yes, it is beautiful, a true eye candy and the female
avatars look very hot!

A quick background of the game:

Last Chaos is a MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer On-line Role Playing Game) set in the continent of Iris.

In the world of Last Chaos, alliances and betrayals continually
cause endless wars, its people doing whatever they can to survive the
chaos. Players acquire the bravery, ability and talent to become the
true emperor of the continent, Iris, by accomplishing missions for the
unification of Iris and experiencing adventures in the huge and unknown
world.

Last Chaos is an on-line role playing game where thousands of
players can simultaneously be connected and upgrade their courage and
battle skills through adventures and quests with other fellow
adventurers.

Will you take your destiny as the unifying ruler of Iris.

I got my activation e-mail after waiting for many hours. It was
announced in Last Chaos’ website that their servers were receiving tons
of request which was causing the enormous delay in sending all the
activation e-mails. Eventually, I got it and I immediately loaded up
Last Chaos and entered to play.

Creating a Character

In creating a character you’ll be greeted by a battle scene as the
camera moves to where the characters are. There are 5 classes to choose
from, a Titan, a Knight, a Healer, a Mage and a Rogue. Can you guess
which class I chose? He he he… Of course, my all time favorite, the
ultimate class, the best of them all, the one and only class for me,
the KNIGHT! Customizing your character is limited to face and hair
selection and once you’ve named your character then it’s good to go.

Your Personal Hell

Once your character is created then you are now ready to enter Last
Chaos! You’ll start inside what is called a Personal Dungeon. This is
equivalent or almost the same as instancing in other mmorpgs like Guild
Wars and CoX. You must explore the dungeon and fight the undead before
you can get out. Monsters inside the dungeon have a cool way of
spawning, they appear from the ground, from the wall or drop from the
ceiling. COOOOOOL! At the end of the dungeon is the exit, get to the
end and you’ll enter Randor.

Life in the City

Once I was out of the dungeon what I did next was explore the city.
The city was huge and very well created. Movement is done by using the
mouse. I kept clicking around looking at the beautifully done
surrounding. I also visited each NPCs and there are a lot of them so I
suggest that you visit them all too.

After that, I noticed a small flashing icon on the bottom right side
of my screen. Whoa! It’s a quest! Actually, you’ll have your first
quest while you are still inside the dungeon. I believe that quest are
unlocked at each level up and they have level limits so be aware of
that. We don’t want to miss a single quest! Well, at least for me, I
love doing quests so I don’t like missing any.

The quest are your typical kill monsters, get the loot and return to
sender, errr, NPC. Also, in the beginning there are quest that will
introduce you to the other things you can do in Last Chaos and that are
farming, mining and absorving. I haven’t really explored these three so
I can’t fully elaborate on it yet.

While I was out doing them quest, I checked my Status and I noticed
that all my stats were 0. Hmmmmm… did I do something wrong? I’ll have
to check that! Anyway, you’ll gain status points as you level up and
you’ll also gain skill points which is used to gain new skills and to
improve existing skills. My knight started with 1 skill but once you
gained enough levels and enough skill points you can visit any of the
Class Masters for your new skills.

The monsters in Last Chaos are beautifully rendered. I was enjoying
looking at them while my character slashed them to their demise. If you
set your graphics setting to high then you’ll truly appreciate how
beautiful the environment is. The water looked like water! If you
system can handle the high settings then you can also switch to 16bit
mode with high settings and the game environment still looks amazing
but with less color, still amazing!

16bit Mode 32bit Mode

I died a few times too and in my last death I went back to this
particular NPC (arrgghhhh, forgot the name) to try the Personal Dungeon
Quest. Your first quest starts at level 5. Now, the monsters are now
much tougher than the ones in the first dungeon, I got clobbered. Next
time, I’ll bring a lot of healing potions. He he he…

Moving On…

I am currently at level 10 and my adventure continues. The game
still has a lot more to offer, there are more quests to perform, more
monsters to kill, more areas to explore and most of all more people to
meet.

I enjoyed my first 10 levels in Last Chaos and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too…. Visit Last Chaos now!

Also check out my Last Chaos Open Beta Adventure it’s a Photo Story of my Adventure in Last Chaos OB!

Eudemons Online

July 9, 2006

Here is another MMORPG that you can add into your Free 2 Play list. This one is title Eudemons Online. I’m currently downloading the game and will provide you with a Quick Look once I get the chance to play it.

Here is a brief introduction from Downloads.Com:

The Eudemons Online is a fantasy MMORPG game produced by

Warrior, Mage and Psychic. Command your heroes to adventure on the vast
land of Atlantis and challenge the power of sword and magic.

Okay, finished downloading that 1.7GB of installation file,
installed the game and started playing my 7 days Trial of Dungeons and
Dragons Online: Stormreach.

Opening
screen was awesome, the character creation is great though I don’t
personally like the artwork, the movie for each class was amazing
because it shows a sneak peek of what your character can become. After
creating my character then it was time to enter DDO: Stormreach

My character started in a harbor. A port like town. You will also be
greeted by an on-screen help system that will pop-up trying to annoy
you but don’t be annoyed because it gives you a lot of information
about the game and where you are and you can always turn it off.

Control is WASD with mouse look. The in-game interface is quite user
friendly and you can go over the different options/choices/menu using
your mouse.

I got my first Quest in a Tavern which is just in-front of where you
started. The quest is basically a form of a tutorial with a voice and
text guiding you through it. I finished that and did some more tranings
from trainors located in the area and after that I moved on to the next
location/zone/map.

DDO’s environment is great, awesome details but my problem with DDO
is that I get this feeling of boredom while playing it. It didn’t
excite me like the way City of Villains did, like Guild Wars did the
first time I played it. DDO felt gloomy and stale even with all those
eye candy. I don’t know, maybe DDO is just not the game for me but I’ll
still continue playing DDO up until my trial expires.

Anyway, I still suggest that you, as an online gamer, give Dungeons
and Dragons Online a try. DDO may not be for me but who knows it could
be the perfect game for you!!!

Downloaded, installed and played Hero Online today. I noticed that
you can use your Legend of Ares account with Hero Online maybe because
they are published by the same company, Netgame. Anyway, atleast you
won’t have to register again.

I played Hero Online upto level 7
last night. Started the client, logged in and created my first
character. My first character is a Blade which I think is equivalent to
a Knight. There isn’t much options in the character creation process
unlike that of other mmorpgs. It’s basically select your class, name it
and play.

Once in the game I immediately noticed that the graphics are crisps
and bright which I find to like a lot although the BGM or background
music is a little bit to ethnic for my taste. Character details for
both PCs and NPCs as well as mobs are great. They are drawned pretty
well.

What I did next was to talk to NPCs for Quest and other stuff but it
seems that Quests have level requirements. At level 1, I tried to talk
to every NPC inside Dragon Castle but found no luck so I moved out of
town to fight my first monsters and they are the not so fierce Wolf Pup.

Combat is pretty straight-forward, click to target and click again
to auto-attack. As a blade, I have a short sword and a two-handed sword
at my disposal but unfortunately to use them I need to be at level 2.
So, at the early stage of your life (level 1) you fight critters with
your bare hands and legs. Don’t think bad about it, the Kung Fu like
animation while fighting is quite pretty good.

You’re first quest will be awarded after you level up and it’s a
sucky quest. You’ll be asked by an NPC to bring a Kitchen Knife to a
blacksmith for repairs. Arrrgghhhh… NPCs are lazy bums and to think
that the blacksmith is just infront of her. Ha ha ha!

Hero Online has some really cool animations like the ones for
healing and changing to Combat to Non-combat stance and vice-versa and
your attack animation changes or improves as you gain more levels. Some
weapons and other stuff has both level requirements and status
requirements so character building is also a factor that should not be
overlooked.

One thing that suprised me during my play was the GM Quiz. A
dialogue box will pop-out with a simple math problem like 1+1=?. Answer
it correctly and you’ll be given a prize. The prize isn’t much really
but I think it’s a feature that’ll be used for in-game events like a
Question and answer Event.

Right now, I am still exploring the game but I suggest that you give Hero Online a try. Click here to visit Hero Online!
