Downloaded, installed and played Hero Online today. I noticed that
you can use your Legend of Ares account with Hero Online maybe because
they are published by the same company, Netgame. Anyway, atleast you
won’t have to register again.

I played Hero Online upto level 7
last night. Started the client, logged in and created my first
character. My first character is a Blade which I think is equivalent to
a Knight. There isn’t much options in the character creation process
unlike that of other mmorpgs. It’s basically select your class, name it
and play.

Once in the game I immediately noticed that the graphics are crisps
and bright which I find to like a lot although the BGM or background
music is a little bit to ethnic for my taste. Character details for
both PCs and NPCs as well as mobs are great. They are drawned pretty
well.

What I did next was to talk to NPCs for Quest and other stuff but it
seems that Quests have level requirements. At level 1, I tried to talk
to every NPC inside Dragon Castle but found no luck so I moved out of
town to fight my first monsters and they are the not so fierce Wolf Pup.

Combat is pretty straight-forward, click to target and click again
to auto-attack. As a blade, I have a short sword and a two-handed sword
at my disposal but unfortunately to use them I need to be at level 2.
So, at the early stage of your life (level 1) you fight critters with
your bare hands and legs. Don’t think bad about it, the Kung Fu like
animation while fighting is quite pretty good.

You’re first quest will be awarded after you level up and it’s a
sucky quest. You’ll be asked by an NPC to bring a Kitchen Knife to a
blacksmith for repairs. Arrrgghhhh… NPCs are lazy bums and to think
that the blacksmith is just infront of her. Ha ha ha!

Hero Online has some really cool animations like the ones for
healing and changing to Combat to Non-combat stance and vice-versa and
your attack animation changes or improves as you gain more levels. Some
weapons and other stuff has both level requirements and status
requirements so character building is also a factor that should not be
overlooked.

One thing that suprised me during my play was the GM Quiz. A
dialogue box will pop-out with a simple math problem like 1+1=?. Answer
it correctly and you’ll be given a prize. The prize isn’t much really
but I think it’s a feature that’ll be used for in-game events like a
Question and answer Event.

Right now, I am still exploring the game but I suggest that you give Hero Online a try. Click here to visit Hero Online!

I’ve downloaded, installed and played Deicide Online. Registration
and client download is fast and easy so you wouldn’t have any problems
with it.

I’ve played Deicide Online upto level 5 before going to
bed last night and here are some of my initial observation about the
game.

  •

    Graphics. Deicide’s graphics is
not that ground breaking but it’s not ugly either. You could say it’s
at par with the many Free 2 Play MMORPGs out there. Also, this is
understandable since they’re still developing the game and it’s only in
it’s open beta. I do like the ability to play in 16 bit mode. People
with lower-end machines may be able to play this game.

  •

    Sounds.
Deicide’s sound effects and music is good but not excellent. I felt
that some of the skills sounded like coming from an Arcade game. The
BGM, well… I need to listen to it more I guess.

  •

    Gameplay.
One major thing I notice about Deicide Online is it’s class system.
Your class depends on the skill you constantly use. There are 4 types
of skill and they are Close, Ranged, Dark and White Magic. There are
other features that are listed on the official site but I haven’t
experienced them yet so I cannot discuss it here. During my first 5
levels of play I did not find any Quest or Missions or any story
element in the game. I love doing Quests, specially those that are part
of a main plot or story and not finding any during my first 5 levels
made me feel a little bit disappointed. There isn’t much in-game help.
Pressing H will just display the Keyboard’s layout although you get a
fairylike companion that will constantly fill your chat box with
messages until level 10. I guess that’s there newbie guide or
    something.

  •

    Controls.
Deicide has some control issues like left clicking to select the
monster and then right clicking to attack it. Why not just double left
click on it? I believe this will be resolve soon. Also, combat feels
slow, maybe it’s because of the slow animation or the delay in
executing each attack but it feels slow.

  •

    GUI.The
GUI also has some issues and it closely resembles the interface of Khan
Online (atleast it feels that way to me). Arrggghhh!!! The text is
horrible but I read in the forum that it’ll be resolved soon.

Other Stuff

There are still more to explore in Deicide Online and I’m only at
level 5 maybe as I gain more experience and levels playing this game
I’ll be able to discover more good and bad stuff about this game.

By the way, I believe Deicide Online is Free 2 Play so it wouldn’t
hurt if we can give this game a try. Let’s support Free 2 Play games
like this.

City of Villains

June 29, 2006

City of Villains is like the sequel to City of Heroes. I haven’t
tried City of Heroes but I’ve been playing City of Villains for more
than 1 month already and I must confess the game is really enjoyable.

In City of Villains, you are a villain freed by Arachnos from the
Zig. You are then transported to Mercy Island where your initial
adventures begin. You have the option to work for Arachnos and become
Lord Recluse’s Destined One or be a freelance Mercenary working for the
various groups in Rogue Isles.

What I like about City of Villains!

  • The graphics of COV is great. Even with the graphics setting set to performance you’ll still get superb graphics quality.
  • COV’s sound effects are really engaging. You’ll feel the intensity of every explosion and the SFX of each skills are not cheezy.
  • Customizable controls. At first I had problems
with the controls but after playing with the option I was able to
properly set the controls to what I am accustomed to.
  • The gameplay rocks and it’ll take you immediately into the action.
Play solo or form a team it’s up to you. Playing with a team is great
because you’ll encounter more enemies inside missions and it’s always
nice to have some people to chat with while playing and you’ll level
faster. Playing solo will not bore you either. You can do the many
missions that are presented and upon completing a set of mission from a
contact you’ll be introduced to a new contact. It’s an adventure!
  • Leveling is not a grind. Missions takes away the grind in
City of Heroes. Missions gives you a bonus in experience and in infamy
and there are also Storied Missions. Also, you don’t have to be high
    leveled to compete in PVPs.
  • PVP Maps. Bloody Bay and Sirens Call are just two of them.
They are like normal maps with mobs and missions but with PVP enabled.
Villains and Heroes meet and battle for control or for just the fun of
    it.
  • You don’t have to be high level to enjoy PVP. Yes,
in COV once you enter a PVP map, all characters are of the same level.
No bullying from high level players which is quite common to MMORPGs.
In COV, you PVP skills will give you victory.
  • Character creation is FUN. I’ve spent a lot of
hours just creating my character. With so many combinations, having a
unique character is not an impossibility.
  • Skills/Powers mean something. If you’ve been playing other
MMORPGs, skills or powers tend to loose their usefulness when powerful
skills or powers are unlocked by your character but in City of Heroes
your skills or powers does not loose their importance.
  • Players are nice! Rude players are quite common to MMORPGs but in COV you’ll hardly encounter them.

What I don’t like about it!

  • On TOP of my list is the PRICE. Compared with other games City of Villains/Heroes is quiet pricy, well for me it is pricy! He he he…
  • High System Requirements. You’ll need a good Video Adapter for this game. My current setup works well with Guild Wars but with COV it sucked!
  • I’d think of others. LOL.

City of Villains is a great game that offers a lot
of adventure and PVP action. It is easy to learn and you can tailor the
game to your own playing style. Try it out!
